Cheaper at Whole Foods February 6, 2010 David M. Iannotti (Quahog, Rogues Island(RI)) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Sporadic residue left behind but far superior to 7th generation powder.
I used to buy them in bulk from Amazon. I now buy them 1 at a time for $5.49 plus tax at Whole Foods. I prefer to buy items in bulk but where's the discount? You actually pay more buying a 6 pack? Sorry Amazon, but you are overpriced on this item.
Best green dishwasher detergent available February 3, 2010 Rebecca Grant-widen I bought four or five different green brands at our local store hoping to find one that would actually clean well. The ecover product was the only one that cleaned my dishes as well as the name brand traditional detergents. I have always needed to rinse dishes well in my dishwasher, so I can't speak to how well this will work if you don't rinse your dishes.
I am very happy to find a green product that works well so I could get rid of using the old stuff. I cannot stand the smell of the chlorine from regular detergents, and have no problems with the product whatsoever.
Excellent product, though the Amazon price is no better than what I can get it for locally, so not worth buying in bulk from Amazon at this point.
Product has a strong added scent/odor/fragrance. January 30, 2010 Forest7 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
In the reviews so far, no one has mentioned the added odor. It has a very strong scent, somewhat like Febreze. When I opened the package, the odor quickly traveled to the living room. Someone there wondered what the smell was.
The website product description says, fragrance, but for an ecologically sound product, that might mean a very mild smell, and not one that carries through the packaging. On the package itself it says, citrus fragrance, but it isn't any citrus that I am familiar with. Who knows what the fragrance consists of but it seems to be an artificial fragrance.
We are returning the product. Fortunately we bought through Amazon and can return products without hassle. In the future we are looking for unscented products, and will remember to look for the term fragrance, which seems to be the new keyword for scented.
Hopefully this review will help those with odor allergies in their decision making process.
The best I've found so far January 24, 2010 superbaguy I used to use Trader Joe's powder (not tablets). When I bought a new dishwasher, it came with a sample tablet and the installer mentioned that using tablets could prove better for the soap dispenser door mechanism because over the long haul powder may get caught in the door slider and make it difficult to operate (especially if you are prone to spilling as I am). What I didn't expect is that the tablet cleaned my dishes better. I don't even recall what brand of tablet that was, but the next time I was in Whole Foods, I saw these and decided to give them a try. They worked better still! Caked on mac and cheese on cookware without a non-stick surface? So what? These babies get the job done in my Bosch. The problem with buying them at Whole Foods is that Whole Foods is inconsistent about when they have certain items in stock (at least at my location). So thank-you Amazon and Ecover!
Works Fantastically Well January 4, 2010 Madeleine M. (Oakland, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was a bit hesitant to try these tablets out, as I was committing myself to a 6-pack from the get-go, but I have definitely been satisfied with my purchase. I previously used Cascade, but it always seemed to leave a toxic-smelling odor such that I'd want to rinse all my dishes after they'd been run through the dishwasher. With Ecover, my dishes come out extremely clean and without any unpleasant chemical smell. It does seem to have difficulty with butter knives that were used for spreading Nutella - but come on, that's a really extra thick and gooey food. I seldom prewash or rinse anything else, but I do tend to scrape my dishes as clean as possible (per the New York Times article about getting the most out of your dishwasher).
These tablets don't fit into the little cubby for dish detergent (I have a Fisher & Paykel dish drawer), but I just plop one in the utensils basket, and it works fine. Of course, there's the definite added bonus of not being terrible for the environment!
